Whole Slide Image (WSI) compression
Efficient compression of WSIs
Whole slide images (WSIs) are often in the gigabytes in size. The number of glass slides produced every year is increasing every year, leading to growing storage consumption. Large centers can have up to tens of thousands of scaned WSIs, which can accumulate to more than 100 terabytes. This is costing institutions in expanding and maintaining storage.
To tackle this problem, I aim to develop new methods for compressing WSIs efficiently. In the process, I believe new understanding about the patterns included in WSIs will also lead to advancement in WSI-related machine learning models.
